Exploring The Valley Of Fire
The city of Las Vegas is well known for gaming and nightlife, however, there is a whole other side of the surrounding area representing a whole other experience. Just 50 miles northeast of the “The Gambling Capital of the World” lies Nevada’s oldest state park. Covering an area of over 34,000 acres, it was dedicated in 1935 to preserve and protect the vast ecologically important and unique ecosystem of the area.
Unique and amazing, the Valley of Fire State Park positively glows with the bright reds and oranges unlike anything else you have ever seen. Considered some of the oldest natural rock formations in the world, these rock formations are the result of fossilized sandstone and sand dunes formed millions of years ago by a shift in the earths crust.
More than just a stunningly beautiful area, the Valley of Fire is known for its history of human habitation. Dating back thousands of years, the first inhabitants are believed to have been ancient Native American tribes who survived on plants an animals in the area as far back as 300 BC.
In this harsh landscape today, very few animals still survive and no humans call this home any longer though signs of this past time can still be seen today. Host to over 300,000 visitors a year, Valley of Fire is considered a top destination for travel in this great state today.
